Neoprene O Rings are commonly used in electrical installations and weather sealing applications. They are particularly suitable for use with water, whether salt or fresh water - although from drinking (potable) water it is better to use EPDM.

O Rings are one of the more simpler and effective seals ever invented: a loop of elastomer, with an o-shaped cross-section.
O-rings are commonly made from viton, silicone, nitrile, and neoprene; and are available in metric and standard sizes.

These o rings are used in sealing and electrical insulation applications.

EPDM is used frequently to seal in brake systems, and for sealing hot water and steam. Ethylene propylene compounds have good resistance to mild acids, detergents, alkalis, silicone oils and greases, ketones, and alcohols.

They are not recommended for applications with petroleum oils, mineral oil, di-ester lubricants, or fuel exposure. Ethylene Propylene has gained wide seal industry acceptance for its excellent ozone and chemical resistance properties and is compatible with many polar fluids that adversely affect other elastomers. The ethylene-propylene o-ring is commonly referred to as an EPDM o-ring, or EP, EPT, EPR o-rings.

The Viton O Ringsare used in the presence of aggressive chemicals, fuels, and explosive gases. They offer excellent resistance to petroleum products and solvents. Very good high-temperature performance. Fluorocarbon elastomer make up the most widely used seals in the semi conductor industry.

Viton O Rings should be considered for seal use in aircraft, automobile, scientific instruments and other mechanical devices requiring maximum resistance to elevated temperature and to many functional fluids.
